Picture yourself on a motorcycle passing though strawberry fields and over ochre mountains... and you would have been alp and I one week ago as we left pune with our horse packed and our newly decorated helmets on our heads. Once we got out of the urban areas, the road was perhaps the best kept in india (as good as that scene in dil chahta hai) and we sped 500 kilometers down to northern goa. We arrived in Arambol (what was a semi-sleepy town three years ago) and started to panick because we could not find anything but a single bed, thanks to the 300,000+ tourists that come to goa for new year's eve (including us). The next day however, we scored an idyllic beach shack on the northern end of the beach, complete with romantic/annoying mosquito netting and since then we have been drinking our goan beer or port or cashew fenny as more tourist roll in and ask for room, but we are full. Yes the port is very good and the fenny since drived from palm sap or cashew fruit does not threaten to blind or kill us. However we have only swam once in the last week which is a situation we want to fix. There were minor problems with the bike but because we couldn't ride it to go to the place to get the stuff things were long. It is really nice to have our own transportation and we are thinking of going down south still since Esin's coming is delayed ever further we dont expect to see her before we leave India. But she has travelled in Iran and now is below K2, so she is having a good time. We hope all of you are having or at least trying to have a good time. For us, all is too much good.

hey puneheads,
we missed you at the new years eve celebration. glad you are having fun motorcycling all around goa. i remember arambol last year at this time. it was so fun remember? ok, i've never been to arombol or even india, but i bet it's fun, sounds like it. the weather has been mild for winter, but i'd be weary of taking the ole moped out of the shed just yet. it was spewing oil all over the driveway last time miriam's brother drove it anyway. did alp fix the bike himself? why don't you buy a bike? i guess renting one is easier on the bank account and less worrisome. so the new years was fun here, we got to hang with a good crowd of people. all right no one showed up, but we got pissed anyway. just joking. a good crowd was here afterall. enough of this nonsense.
b-bye

Punies,
Happy New Year! Ingie, I like your haircut. You both look kinda different, but cool. Wow your bungalow by the sea sure looks divine. Hey, guess what? In puerto rico we swam in bioluminescence at night. Everyone was glowing neon blue. We also went to the rainforest and spent the day at incredible waterfalls there. At night, we fell asleep to a chorus of coquis (tree frogs). We ended the trip in old san juan, a colorful and fun city. We stayed at the enchanting "Gallery Inn" full of art and exotic birds and plants. I'd post pictures online, but we only took film, which I still swear by because some of the pictures got double exposed and look awsome. Speaking of pictures, I ordered some of yours. When you come back to c-ville we should have a travel photography exhibition!
love,
Miriam Robiason

dear ingrid&alp i am as always so glad to read about you and traveling and your motorcycle. i cannot bring any news from charlottesville save a little from the inn, which is: brendan has been in india but is fortunately back now i think, and i think also that the dishwasher's fixed. we had a locksmith out the other day and this was exciting. the old dishwasher has been sitting about on the porch and last i worked some europeans (swiss maybe?) went out and had breakfast with it.
here again it has been unreasonably warm and i did try to go snowboarding once when it was sixty outside and raining, in shirtsleeves at night in january!.
went up to newyork for this past week and walked allover town, where it was snowing some. in one art gallery there were some pieces made out of big wood frames and lots of bits of fur and also white goop tossed about, with sometimes small figurines or parts of dolls. altogether very curious. do you know the older version of rudolph the red-nosed reindeer that often is on television and has in it the abominable snowman? much like that.
lindsey and andrew have a lovely apartment in brooklyn that is like a long hallway, and kate is doing well too.
everything that is best to you,
rebekah.
Helllllooooo! CAN YOU HEAR MEEEEE?????!!!! Are you out there? Gues what you're missing over here.................................SNOW!
